Ministries & Programs

At Guiding Star Missionary Baptist Church, ministry is at the heart of who we are. Each ministry is designed to strengthen faith, build relationships, and serve both our church family and the surrounding community. No matter your age or stage of life, there is a place for you to grow, serve, and connect.

Worship & Music Ministry

Our Worship & Music Ministry leads the congregation in praise through song and worship experiences that uplift, inspire, and glorify God. This ministry supports weekly worship services and special programs, helping create an atmosphere where hearts and minds are prepared to receive the Word.

Christian Education: Sunday School & Bible Study

We believe spiritual growth comes through understanding God’s Word. Our Christian Education ministry provides Bible study and Sunday School opportunities, teaching sessions, and faith-based discussions that help members deepen their biblical knowledge and apply Scripture to daily life.

Our Youth & Children’s Ministry is committed to nurturing the next generation in faith, character, and confidence. Through age-appropriate lessons, activities, and mentorship, children and youth are encouraged to build a strong foundation in Christ while developing positive relationships and leadership skills.

Outreach Ministry

Rev. Jerome Peterson, Director

The Outreach Ministry is dedicated to serving our community and sharing God’s love through action. We strive to meet both spiritual and physical needs by feeding families through our mobile food truck, providing diapers and essentials to those in need, and offering comfort through visits to the sick and nursing homes. Our mission is to be the hands and feet of Jesus, spreading hope, compassion, and love to all we encounter.

Worship Dance “God’s Glory” Ministry

Penelope Collins, Director

Our mission is to glorify God through the art of dance, using movement as an expression of worship, prayer, and praise. We seek to lead others into the presence of God, inspire hearts to draw closer to Him, and communicate His love and truth through Spirit-led, Christ-centered dance. With excellence, humility, and unity, we aim to serve as vessels of God’s anointing: transforming lives, uplifting the church, and advancing His Kingdom through the ministry of worship in motion.

The Worship Dancers express praise and worship through the beauty of interpretive dance, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak, uplift, and encourage through expressions of love, grace, and joy. Rooted in biblical worship, we follow the example of Scripture where God’s people praised Him with dance (Psalm 149:3, Psalm 150:4).

Through every step, gesture, and expression, our Worship Dancers seek to glorify God, inspire His people, and create an atmosphere where hearts are drawn closer to Him. We dance not for performance, but as a living offering of worship — giving God the honor He deserves.

Greeter Ministry

Sis. Cheryl Johnson

The first contact for everyone entering the church, our greeters are vital to setting the tone for worship by welcoming each person with a smile and a warm personal greeting. They identify visitors, answer questions, give directions, and serve to ensure each person is comfortable and feels how happy we are to have them join us in worship.

Usher Ministry

Sis. Sherieta Lewis, President

Also known as Doorkeepers, the ushers are our second point of contact with worshipers, serving to welcome members and visitors into the sanctuary for service. Ushers serve with a smile reflecting the love of God, and are always ready to assist in an emergency. They assist with seating, facilitate smooth congregational movement, and discretely address the needs of worshipers while maintaining the reverence of the service.
